VIP’s top 10 destinations for 2010

It’s that time of the year folks in which we’ve already surpassed thinking of the year that’s passed and start thinking about the year ahead. And in this part of the world, if you’re a VIP Backpacker, that means you’re thinking about travel! To help you on your way, here are some hot VIP destinations to consider in 2010.

Sydney, Australia

1. Sydney, Australia
The perennial backpacker favourite won’t alter its status in 2010. If you’re arriving in Australia this is a good place to base for work, the climate is great and there’s plenty to see and do, plus there’s gnarly events all year like the Mardi Gras and New Year’s fireworks.

Bungy jumping, Queenstown

2. Queenstown, New Zealand
Chase the land of shadows down in the southern corner of New Zealand. Queenstown is the place for adventure with any thrill and spill you can think of on land, water or in the air! It’s a great place any time of year; ski or snowboard in winter, tramp in the summer months and there’s great wine tasting, fishing or kayaking to be done at other times.

3. Dublin, Ireland
If you haven’t put Dublin on your itinerary yet, it’s time you jumped on the bandwagon. With fantastic budget flights to Dublin every day there’s little excuse. With fabulous VIP accommodation right in the heart of the Temple Bar district you can take in all the sights, the history and the Guinness! Head out to the Wicklow Mountains for some stunning daytrips.

4.  Town of 1770, Queensland
It might be little known but this gem of a place on the central Queensland coast is on it’s way up with kayaking, surfing, fishing, rainforest or reef to choose from. Go now before it becomes too popular!

5. Reykjavik, Iceland
Poor old Iceland has struggled through the global financial downturn so this is your turn to help out. Plus Iceland rocks and you’ll love it. There are puffins to marvel at, hot springs to relax in, amazing fjords to cruise and of course the famed Northern Lights.

Guard at Windsor Castle, London

6. London, England
One of the best bases for travel around Europe, London is full of experiences for the VIP Backpacker. Trot past Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Windsor Castle and the Thames. Enjoy a night out at the pub, plenty of chip based meals, great markets and cheap flights to other places!

7. Buenos Aires, Argentina
The 2010 Dakar rally may have forged a trail to Argentina in your mind and if you’re in search of good times, music, wine, dance and beef steaks Buenos Aires is the place.

8. Kyoto, Japan
Step back in time to gorgeous Kyoto, the land of geisha, shrines and temples, quiet canals and miniature bonsai.

9. Auckland, New Zealand
This is New Zealand’s biggest and liveliest city with an impressive harbour, laid-back city life and it also provides access to some of the country’s best beaches and islands.

10. Cape Town, South Africa
With the FIFA World Cup going off here in June, Cape Town is going to be the destination to beat in 2010. Thankfully we have tons of services here so you can enjoy all the sights in person rather than just watch them on the telly – there’s famous Table Top Mountain, the stunning beaches and tours through Kruger National Park.

  2. I read this the other day and have noted I’ve been to Queenstown recently, so at least I’ve done one of the top 10 destinations for the year!
