Five cheap things to do in Sydney

Okay so we know prices in Australia are going up but there are ways to have a good time in Sydney without blowing the budget. Here’s a short list and feel free to send in some more.

1. Walk Circular Quay
There are plenty of mad experiences to be had in this wonderful area from doing the bridge climb to going inside the Opera House. But the wonderful thing about this area is how much you can see without paying a sense. Let your feet do the walking and you can stroll around the precinct seeing all the famous sights – you may even wish to cross the bridge on foot.

Surfing at Maroubra.

2. Surf or swim at Bondi Beach
All you have to do is get there! Get a board from your hostel (if you’re near the beach), from a friend or simply body surf in the famous waves – they are free after all. If you do have a bit of cash you might like to do the two hour Bondi surfing lesson we offer for just $50! If Maroubra is more your deal then check out our beginner course offered there too. Remember Maroubra is where the famous Bra Boys come from and surfing star Koby Abberton.

3. Browse the markets
The operative word here is “browse” or you will spend big bucks. Sydney is littered with markets – Paddington, Bondi Junction, Kings Cross, Manly, Castle Hill, Parramatta you name it. Check out the list here. Sydney is also famed for its numerous op shops (opportunity/charity shops). You will find these in most suburbs offering stellar deals on anything from clothing to shoes and household gear.

Cruising Sydney Harbour.

4. Cruise the harbour
It is almost an imperative Sydney experience to head out on the water in Sydney Harbour. But again this doesn’t have to cost a lot. Simply jump on a ferry going somewhere like Manly for a really cheap way to enjoy the sights from the water. Or you might like to do the Captain Cook Hop on Hop off cruise for just $23.20.

5. Visit the Botanic Gardens and Government House
Admission to both Sydney attractions is absolutely free. The Government House is within walking distance of Circular Quay and a beautiful Gothic Revival building. The Botanic Gardens are also in this area – a great place to picnic and enjoy the harbour views.

If you’d like to avail of the tour options we offer from Sydney then make sure you check out the options available.

Stay tuned – we will do a five cheap things series including Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and some other major centres.
