Five cheap things to do in Perth

Cottesloe_beachContinuing our series on “five cheap things to do” in Australian cities, here’s a list of things to consider when you next visit Perth.

1. Hang out at Cottlesloe Beach
Sydney might have Bondi but Perth has Cottlesloe. You be the one to decide which one is more striking. Cottesloe is perfect for swimmers, surfers, families, picnickers, walkers, runners… everyone will enjoy it!

2. Wander the Fremantle markets
With 150 stalls, great coffee, fresh produce and fun, the Freo markets are the best place to be come Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Do your weekly shopping, enjoy the array of performers or simply breakfast, lunch or diner on wonderful local food.

3. Picnic in Kings Park
You might have thought some of the inner city parks in Melbourne or Sydney were big, but Kings is actually the largest in the southern hemisphere. It has some fine Botanic Gardens and there are some amazing views of the city from several grassy spots. Take a picnic and while away the day.

4. Trek the Bibbulmun
The Bibbulmun Track runs for 1000 kilometres from Perth to Albany. While obviously you can overnight along the way, you can also just take on a day trip and start out in the Perth hills at Kalamunda.

5. Sample the Swan Valley
You can actually tour the Swan Valley and sample the wines without spending a cent. Of course that might be impossible as the wines aren’t the only amazing produce on offer in this area south of the city. There’s actually chocolate, beer, cheese, olives and other local produce that is all simply amazing and might be hard to resist.

Here’s one of our tours you can choose from in this area.

Swan Valley Wine Cruise

This truly is a beautiful way to experience Perth’s Swan River. Learn about the ancient art of wine making and enjoy a delicious lunch at Chesters Winery. Then, only a short coach trip away to the beautiful Houghton Vineyard for further wine tastings. Once the wine tasting is over, it’s off to the famous Margaret River Chocolate Factory – Chocolate should always follow wine! … MORE INFO
