Every summer Australia’s cities come alive with open air cinemas that utilise the balmy night temperatures at feature locations around the country. If you fancy seeing your favourite movie at a key location overlooking the Brisbane river, Sydney harbour or Melbourne’s St Kilda beach, this kind of cinema might just be your thing.
Continuing in our series of “cheap things to do” in Australian cities (see Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Hobart, Adelaide and Brisbane entries), here’s five things to do in Canberra, ACT that won’t overwhelm the budget.
The halls of power of the Australian capital are not just a chance to gawk at the suits and skirts (yes Australia has a female Prime Minister), but a chance to admire some stunning architectural monuments, beautiful gardens, lakes and museums. Plus there’s a fine array of festivals on in Canberra throughout the year well worth checking out.
Most people come to Canberra to visit Parliament House and wonderfully entry and tours are free during set times (see the link above). It’s possible to view both chambers when they are sitting; most enjoy the colourful Question Time of the Australian Parliament where leaders of the day heckle and jibe at each other in a way only Aussies know how!
